What is Ho’oponopono?

Disclaimer: Ho`oponopono is a very deep process that is taught by spiritual leaders or Kahunas trained in this Hawai`ian tradition.
This radical approach of taking 100% responsibility for everything that happens in your life is a practice I fell in love with, in 2009 when a dear Lomi Lomi massage therapist, who trained on Kaui, introduced the practice to me.
On the surface level, I have understood Ho’oponopono to be a mantra where one repeats the words (in English) ‘I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you’ as a form of mental and spiritual cleaning that can be compared to other spiritual techniques for clearing karma. However, I have now found after practicing this mantra and teaching it to others, the profound and powerful transformation it can bring!
This practice has been defined as a forgiveness and reconciliation practice, cleansing of ‘errors of thought’–the origin of problems and sickness in the physical world, according to the Hawaiian worldview. The literal translation is ‘to put to right; to put in order or shape, correct, revise, adjust, amend, regulate, arrange, rectify, tidy up, make orderly or neat."

When you become right with others, you become right with yourself!

It is my intention to share this as my way of giving back. It is an artistic expression and serves as beautiful teaching. I also stand in solidarity and in unity to honor the cultural practices of the aloha spirit and to negate racism, colonialism, and hatred. Let's unify and love one another!
